Storm King Art Center, one of the world’s largest and most renowned sculpture parks, features more than 100 sculptures spread across the center’s 500 acres of rolling hills, native fields, and woodlands. Several miles of walking trails allow visitors easy access to the exhibitions, which range in size from monumental to so tiny they could be easily overlooked. Rental bicycles are also available, along with frequent trams, plus plenty of picnic tables, a café, and museum, along with regular special exhibitionsand events. Storm King Art Center is a convenient drive from New York City, with packages and deals available from Coach USA and Zipcar. Alternatively, the center is a quick cab ride away from the Salisbury Mills station on Metro-North’s Port Jervis line. Expect a fee to enter the park.

Of the more than 31,000 temples throughout Thailand, this one, standing 269 feet tall, is one of the most iconic. It’s fine to fly solo at Wat Arun. There isn’t much information available at the ticket booth, so let Google be your tour guide. Visitors clamor to Wat Arun because it’s one of the few temples in Thailand that you can climb; once you’ve ascended the steep and narrow stairs, you’re in for a great view of the river and surrounding temple complex. After taking in the sights, walk back down the stairs and inspect the floral murals made from broken Chinese porcelain discarded by Chinese traders who worked at the nearby port. Next, don’t miss the boht—ordination hall—filled with the ashes of Rama II, more ornate murals, and rows of gilded Buddhas.

Known for its varied, multidisciplinary programme, which includes events ranging from literary festivals to queer club nights, Tolhuistuin stands on the northern banks of the river Ij, across the water from Amsterdam’s Centraal Station. The venue ranks among the largest cultural hubs in Amsterdam and collaborates with several other local initiatives in order to create inclusive, progressive events that often revolve around contemporary social or political issues. At its heart, the venue serves as an incubator for forward-thinking ideas and tends to focus on avant-garde art, music and literature. There’s also a spacious restaurant and bar with terrace located on-site, offering speculator views of Amsterdam’s southern docklands.

With only 38 seats available along with a few stools in the bar, Le Servan has a welcoming and homey atmosphere featuring modern decor and large windows.

Infusing references from their childhood in France, Hong Kong, Thailand and the Philippines, the Levha sisters offer a worldly, contemporary take on quintessential French cuisine at Le Servan. It’s a spot not to miss when visiting the City of Light.
